Sonya Greta: Bio

"It took me years with a heavy load to mark this corner as my own." - Sonya Greta

BIO

"Singing has always been a constant in my life, and so has expressing myself with music."

Born in San Francisco, Sonya Greta began guitar lessons at age nine. Leaving the guitar behind by age 13, she emerged as the "chick singer" in various high school garage bands. "I was the typical quiet girl in high school, quiet and shy. I surprised my classmates and myself by singing at the annual senior high school class event. After that, I sensed that people saw me differently, like they finally got to see who I really was."

College studies led to music education. "I wanted to learn as much as I could about music and immersed myself in learning about the voice." Academia, however, failed to fill a void. "I got sidetracked and I reached a crossroads. A good friend suggested that I return to playing the guitar, and to singing pop and folk songs. She also brought up the idea of writing my own songs and one year later, I did."

In the winter of 2003 Sonya Greta released her first album. She now lives in the outskirts of San Francisco.
